The Red Shoes, a 1948 British film based on the fairy tale The Red Shoes by Hans Christian Andersen, stars Moira Shearer, Anton Walbrook and Marius Goring and features renowned dancers Robert Helpmann, Leonide Massine and Ludmilla Tcherina.
Australian ballet Astar Robert Helpmann choreographed the film and performed the role of the lead dancer of the Ballet Lemontov and Shearer’s boyfriend. Leonie Massine creating his own choreography for his role as the Shoemaker. The original score by Brian Easdale, who conducted most of the music in the film, with the exception of the Ballet of the Red Shoes; which Sir Thomas Beecham conducted and received prominent screen credit.
