Ailey Returns To Lincoln Center Today

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for 15 performances beginning, Wednesday, June 11.  The opening festivities will begin with a free outdoor event on the Josie Robertson Plaza. At 5:30pm former Ailey company dancers Nasha Thomas-Schmitt and Renee Robinson will teach choreography from Alvin Ailey’s masterpiece Revelations. The demonstration will be accompanied by live music with a drummer and choir.

At 7pm the Ailey Spirit Gala performance will official kick off the season at the David H. Koch Theater. The evening hosted by Vanessa Williams will feature the company premiere of David Parson’s signature solo, Caught and a special performance of Revelations featuring a cast of 50 dancers. There are a limited number of $25 reduced prices 3rd ring tickets available for the gala evening performance. The season, which runs through June 22 will offer four programs and  includes, The Pleasure of the Lesson,  a world premiere from Robert Moses, and three company premieres; Asadata Dafora’s groundbreaking 1932 solo, Awassa Astrige/Ostrich, and new productions of Hans van Manen’s Polish Pieces and Parsons’ Caught.

Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased at the David H. Koch Box Office, by phone at 212-496-0600, or online at alvinailey.org. Student tickets may be available on the day of the performance for $15 at the box office with a valid student ID (one per student – subject to availability). Program B: Grace / Awassa Astrige/Ostrich / D-Man in the Waters (Part I) / Minus 16 (June 13, 15 and 21 evening)

Program C: (Ailey/Ellington): Night Creature / Pas de Duke / The River / Revelations (June 14, 15 and 20 evening)

Program D: LIFT / Caught / Polish Pieces / Revelations (June 17 and 21 matinee, 19 and 22 evening)
