NYC Black Pride 2016 held it’s 8th Heritage Awards Ceremony on Friday, August 19 at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, 515 Lenox Avenue West 135th Street in Harlem. The evening presented twenty-six awards to over thirty individuals and organizations who have had a positive intact on the LGBTQ community. The 19th Annual NYC Black Pride 2016 began with IGNITE: An opening reception at ALOFT Harlem. The bar and main floor became an informal yet intimate setting for the four-hour soiree, which eventually spilled out in to the courtyard. Known for exuberantly colorful abstractions with street art flair, Martinez has recently taken to painting over large parts of his canvases with white pigment, not as an erasure so much as an exploration of how revisions factor into the process of composition. This show features works in that vein, created over the last year. The exhibit runs through February 17, 2019.

Dance Of The Village EldersDance Of The Village EldersTime: 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm The Dance of The Village Elders will resume weekly fitness classes for Seniors on Thursday January 10th 2pm at St. Phillip's Church (204 west 134th Street). The 90-minutes class Thursday afternoon class incorporates stretching and breathing, calisthenics, aerobics and dance/choreography. The class is “senior specific” designed to encourage and aid each person reach their personal best.
