Ingrid Silva was like every little girl who studied ballet; she dreamed of being a ballerina. As Silva’s potential became evident she realized that there was little opportunity for a dark-skinned classical dancer in Brazil. Kymera Dance began their 2014 New York season on Sunday, May 25 at the Goldman-Sonnenfeldt Family Auditorium, JCC in Manhattan. The season featured two world premieres by commissioned artist Amy Hall Garner and Artistic Director William Isaac. The performance was a well-balanced and artistically succinct program, which successfully conveyed both choreographers’ intents and individual styles. Continue reading

Known for exuberantly colorful abstractions with street art flair, Martinez has recently taken to painting over large parts of his canvases with white pigment, not as an erasure so much as an exploration of how revisions factor into the process of composition. This show features works in that vein, created over the last year. The exhibit runs through February 17, 2019.

Dance Of The Village EldersDance Of The Village EldersTime: 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm The Dance of The Village Elders will resume weekly fitness classes for Seniors on Thursday January 10th 2pm at St. Phillip's Church (204 west 134th Street). The 90-minutes class Thursday afternoon class incorporates stretching and breathing, calisthenics, aerobics and dance/choreography. The class is “senior specific” designed to encourage and aid each person reach their personal best.
