The National Portrait Gallery is unveiling portraits of former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama. The paintings were being unveiled Monday February 12, 2018 (the official holiday of Abraham Lincoln) at the gallery, which is part of the Smithsonian group of museums. Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic at the Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn,is an overview of the artist’s prolific fourteen-year career featuring sixty paintings and sculptures. The works represent Wiley’s signature portraits of everyday men and women of color set in the style of the Old Masters. Wiley has replaced the European aristocrats depicted in those paintings with contemporary black subjects, drawing attention to the absence of African-Americans from historical and cultural narratives. Singer Solange Knowles (28) and her 51-year-old video director boyfriend Alan Ferguson wed this weekend in New Orleans. “Everyone I worked with on the wedding are friends who I love,” said Solange via email earlier today. “Everything was a labor of love.” The dress was by Humberto Leon for Kenzo, but we could not help but draw comparisons to another famous bride whose dress and personal (signature) style is remarkably similar.
