Its Saturday and as the autumn leaves continue to fall the arts are getting that exciting seasonal lift. There is music uptown, musicals celebrating Harlem and Brooklyn, and dancers dancing downtown. Here are our weekend picks in the city that never sleeps guaranteed to keep you Out and About.  

Ginnys-Supper-Club

Bobbi Humphrey the “First Lady Of Flute” will present Harlem River Drive for two performances on Sat, November 8, 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm at Ginny’s Supper Club the downstairs lounge at Red Rooster, 310 Lenox Ave. Humphrey is celebrating the reissue and 20th anniversary of the Passion Flute CD by bringing Harlem River Drive Live to the Ginny’s Supper Club stage. Bobbi Humphrey, is a top-charting and awarding instrumentalist, and exhilarating performer, now enjoying iconic success for over Forty years. Embracing dreams as big as her native Texas; she became the first female signed to Blue Note Records, recording with such legendary artists as Lee Morgan to Stevie Wonder. Her recording of Harlem River Drive is a Jazz classic; she is widely sampled by Hip Hop artists such as Will Smith, Ludacris, The Roots, among others.

Ain’t Misbehavin’ will have a limited engagement runs through November 23 at the Faison Firehouse Theater, 6 Hancock Place (124th St. between St. Nicholas & Morningside Avenue). Ain’t Misbehavin’ is an extraordinary musical, which encompasses 30 show-stopping numbers, takes the audience on a journey through the Fats Waller song book, and the Harlem jazz era in its 1930 heyday. Producer/ director A. Curtis Farrow, has produced Ain’t Misbehavin’ for 20 years. This engaging production includes vocalists Vivian Jett, Ron Lucas, Dawn Driver, and Danea Robinson.

The Fortress of Solitude continues at The Public Theater’s Newman Theater, 425 Lafayette Street, now through November 16. The production brings together a dynamite creative team including composer/lyricist Michael Friedman (Love’s Labour’s Lost, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), bookwriter Itamar Moses (Boardwalk Empire, The Four of Us) and choreographer Camille Brown (Streetcar Named Desire). The Fortress of Solitude is the extraordinary coming-of-age story about 1970s Brooklyn and beyond — of black and white, soul and rap, block parties and blackouts, friendship and betrayal, comic books and 45s. And the story of what would happen if two teenagers obsessed with superheroes believed that maybe, just maybe, they could fly…

Celebrating The Life Of Phyllis Lamhut from The Horse’s Mouth will present two programs on Saturday, November 8, 7pm and 9pm at the Tisch School Of The Arts/Dance, 111 2nd Avenue, 5th Floor Theater. The evening is a dancing celebration of Lamhut’s work as dancer, choreographer, teacher, mentor and overall force of nature in the community of dance.  Proceeds from this performance will include the newly established Phyllis Lamhut Tisch Dance Scholarship Fund. Thirty-eight dancers, choreographers, critics and friends inspired by and impacted by working with this indomitable artist and educator will perform.
