Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving is the newest member of the Nike Basketball signature sneaker family. Nike designer Leo Chang created the sneaker for Irving’s tremendous speed and quickness on the court. The three design elements that distinguish the Kyrie 1: the Nike Zoom Air cushioning in the forefoot for added responsiveness, 360-degree grip around the midsole and a Hyper fuse upper for stability.

The Kyrie 1 silhouette also features hand-written details including a signature on the inside of the tongue, a hit of JBY designating the Australia-born athletes “Just Be You” motto and Kyrie Irving’s official logo embroidered prominently on the tongue. The launch of the Kyrie 1 will premiere the flagship Deceptive Red color way on January 10, while the Dream color way will see earlier availability starting December 23 in the U.S. Customized editions of the Kyrie 1 are also being offered through Nike I.D.
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Andrew Irving was born in Melbourne, Australia but grew up in West Orange, New Jersey. He played collegiately at Duke University before being selected with the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Cavaliers. Since joining the NBA, Irving has achieved a number of accolades including being the 2011–12 NBA Rookie of the Year and the 2014 NBA All-Star game MVP.
