Stephanie Mills rose to stardom as Dorothy in the original Broadway run of the Tony Award winning musical The Wiz. The song Home, written by Charlie Smalls, from the show later became a No.1 U.S. R&B hit for Mills and her signature song.

I first met Stephanie through her sister, Judy at the NEGRO ENSEMBLE COMPANY in NY. We were rehearsing a play and Judy intimated that her little sister, a petite teen, had this powerhouse voice. I didn’t believe such a tiny young thing could live up to her proud sister’s boast……until she opened her mouth in song——I was truly humbled!
