Donald Lawrence took on The Tri-City Singers after a friend vacated his position as musical director. They derived the name from the three cities that The Tri-City Singers come from are Spartanburg, SC, Gastonia, NC, and Charlotte, NC. In 1993 the group debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top Gospel Charts with A Songwriter’s Point Of View on a then-brand-new independent record label called GospoCentric Records.

The group’s follow-up release Bible Stories would top the charts when it arrived in 1995. Billed for the first time as Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers and featured hits such as A Message For The Saints, I Am God and Stranger.

The song featured: God’s Favor (Sheri Jones-Moffett, Blanche McAllister, & LeJeune Thompson), When the Saints Go to Worship (Erica McCullough), Bless Me (Prayer of Jabez) (Sharla Byrd), And Yet I’m Still Saved (LaShun Pace), & Seasons (Bishop Walter Hawkins).
