Ronald K. Brown and Evidence, A Dance Company begin a one week New York City season Tuesday, February 24 through Sunday, March 1 at the Joyce Theater. The season will mark the 30th anniversary of the company. To commemorate this milestone the company will present two programs of Brown’s signature work.
Ronald K. Brown- the 2015 New York City Season and His Choreographic Process
Audiences will see two works from 1999, Grace (also in the repertoire of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater) and Gatekeeper (also in the repertoire of the Philadanco). These works, an amalgam of West African, urban vernacular, and modern dance, were groundbreaking in the development of Brown’s unmistakable style. Another season highlight The Subtle One (2014), will be performed to live accompaniment by composer Jason Moran and the Bandwagon. Through Time and Culture (2014), will give audiences an opportunity to see Brown perform a solo work.
The two programs scheduled are:
Program A: Feb 24, 25 at 7.30pm, Feb 28 at 2pm, Mar 1 at 7.30pm – The Subtle One; Lessons (excerpts); Grace
Program B: Feb 26, 27, 28 at 8pm, Mar 1 at 2pm – Gatekeepers, Through Time and Culture, One Shot (excerpt), Why You Follow
