5/19/17 O&A NYC SHALL WE DANCE FRIDAY: Happy Birthday Malcolm X- In Black and White

Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. “You can’t separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom.”- Malcolm X

In Black and White- fighting for equality in the era of “By Any Means Necessary”- uses Malcolm X’s October 11, 1963 speech at the University of California, Berkeley as the message and the music. In the address he states that the next American civil war will not be about race, but a revolt for financial superiority. This 54 year old speech becomes surprisingly prevalent during the Trump presidency. In Black and White, choreography by Walter Rutledge performed by Hassan Blandford and Christopher Fishburn.
