Vocalist/Songwriter Kenya delivers smooth soulful vocals. Her jazz influence creates music that embodies a contemporary groove and has charted on the US R&B Billboard Chart as well as the Top 10 UK Soul Chart and other European radio charts. Inspired by American singer/songwriters such as Stevie Wonder & Lalah Hathaway and international groups like Incognito & Brand New Heavies, Kenya admits that “Music = air”…without it, she simply doesn’t breathe.

On May 9 Kenya will open for artists such as Lalah Hathaway and Rachelle Ferrell at the Southport Weekender 52 at Butlins Resort, Minehead, Somerset; United Kingdom.
Kenya’s debut album, My Own Skin released on March 15 in the United Kingdom. The album hit #1 on two UK charts for two consecutive weeks and there is a U.S. release planned for the late summer/early fall.

Born and raised in Denver, Colorado Kenya now calls Chicago home. This artist and entrepreneur has found a successful balance between career and family. Married to surgeon Carl Johnson, the Johnsons have two sons Trey (12) and Bryant (8). In 2013 The Johnsons were named “Coolest Black Family in America No.9″ in Ebony Magazine.
