Strange Fruit a song originally recorded by jazz song stylist Billie Holiday in 1939, written by Abel Meeropol and published in 1937. The song was a  protests the lynching of Black Americans. It was featured in the 1972 film Lady Sings The Blues starring Diana Ross. 

Lady Sings the Blues (1972) starring Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams based on the 1956 autobiography by Billie Holiday which, in turn, took its title from one of Holiday’s most popular songs.
