Pie Pie Blackbird, like a lot of classic shorts from the time is nothing more than an excuse to spotlight some great music from the period.
Pie Pie Blackbird features the legendary Eubie Blake doing “Memories of You”, Nina Mae McKinney singing “Everything I’ve Got Belongs To You” and an outstanding dance number by the teenage Nicholas Brothers years before their appearances in Tin Pan Alley and Stormy Weather. Blatantly, racial stereotypes of the era abound but don’t let that get in the way of some outstanding musical performers.
