Robert Yancy, Natalie Cole’s son says the first African-American to win a Grammy for Best New Artist deserved a better tribute. Yancy says he’s outraged his mom didn’t get a star-studded tribute. “She has deserved so much more than that because she has done so much,” he said. “It was really insulting,” he added. Sisters Timolan and Casey Cole agreed. “Not even verbally mentioned. It was not something we felt was worthy of such an iconic star.” Continue reading

Another One Bites the Dust by the British rock band Queen is from the group’s eighth studio album The Game (1980),  Written by bass guitarist John Deacon, the song featured a driving bass line, inspired by the song Good Times by the disco group Chic. At the 1981 American Music Awards on 30 January, Another One Bites the Dust won Favorite Pop/Rock Single and garnered a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.  Continue reading

Richard Smallwood is the Black Brahms of Gospel music. His lush orchestrations and choral arrangements are the hallmarks of his signature sound. An accomplished pianist, composer, arranger, vocalist and choral conductor Smallwood graduated cum laude from Howard University with degrees in both vocal performance and piano, and  graduate work in the field of ethnomusicology. He finished his Masters degree in Divinity from Howard University in 2004 and was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
