“Geometry is a new form of decoration,” said Valentino co-designer Pierpaolo Piccioli. It certainly contributed to the strongest looks in this collection. Continue reading
Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing left a letter on the seats that expressed his thought process for this collection. “One of the most fascinating things about designing is the – for lack of a better word – “therapeutic value” of what we create. Clothing changes self-perceptions – after all, isn’t that the whole point of this industry?” The collection stood at a cross-roads of cultural influences and the desert exploration embodied a metaphor for creation. The Roberto Cavalli Autumn/Winter 2015 collection interprets the grandeur and opulence of the Baroque, not from a strictly literal perspective, but focusing primarily on the core ideas of expressiveness and exuberance. Continue reading
In December 1953, Coco Chanel began her incredible return to center stage. The designer reopens her Haute Couture house after fifteen years of absence. Wang’s shapes were straight out of the archives: a cocoon coat, rounded jackets with stand-up collars, bubble skirts—all of it decorated to the hilt with paste jewelry, like the ladies would’ve done back in the day, only with the real stuff. The Fendi 2015 fall/winter collection pushed the notion further by making every jacket and coat fully reversible. For a moment, Venturini Fendi even considered sending the collection down the catwalk one way, flipping it inside out, and sending the entire collection out again. “The collection looks completely different when it’s reversed,” she said. “It’s like the peekaboo effect in clothes.” Or like the brown suede coat that flipped to gray leather.
