Dancer Khalia Campbell is living her dream! Years of dedication, sacrifice and ole fashion hard work has taken this Bronx native to her “dream job” as a member of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Campbell will make her New York City Center debut during the company’s fall season November 28 through December 30.
Her rise from Ailey School student to Ailey II and now the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is best described as nothing less than meteoric. The statuesque Campbell, with her long legs and pliant physique, has an innate (God-given) ability to translate movement into a moving message. Campbell will dance her dream role, the “Umbrella Girl” in Revelation. The role danced by her idol Judith Jamison; but this “artist on the rise” could never be the next Jamison, simply because she is destined to be the first Khalia Campbell.
