These two great artists perform excerpts from three works; Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon, Sir Frederick Ashton’s A Month In The Country and Act 3 Swan Lake.
Sir Anthony James Dowell, CBE was a dancer (1961- 1984) and Artistic Director (1986- 2001) of the Royal Ballet. His strong technique, lyrical quality, and extraordinary dramatic sensibilities, helped propel him to the rank of principal dancer by 1966.
Natalia Romanovna Makarova was a permanent member of the Kirov Ballet in Leningrad (1956 to 1970) achieving prima ballerina status during the 1960s. She defected to the West while on tour with the Kirov in London, and quickly began performing with the American Ballet Theatre (New York) and the Royal Ballet (London).
