2/25/19 O&A NYC HOLLYWOOD MONDAY: High Toned (1929)- Starring Buck and Bubbles

Buck and Bubbles were part of the amazingly talented cast of Blackbirds of 1930 along with piano virtuoso Eubie Blake and the magnificent vocalist Ethel Waters. While this revue is considered a landmark event in the history of black classical music, there is an awestruck need to be reminded that it only ran for a total of 26 performances, leaving Ford Lee “Buck” Washington and John W. 11/15/18 O&A NYC SPORTS: Jesse Owens at the Berlin Olympics in 1936

Jesse Owens stole Hilter’s glory and dispelled the Ayran master race propaganda at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Owens  won 4 gold medals: 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump and 4 × 100 meter relay; his victories angered and embarrassed Hitler.

10/12/18 O&A NYC SHALL WE DANCE FRIDAY: Tap Heat

Tap Heat, a 14 minute award winning short film starring Arthur Duncan and Jason Samuels Smith that uses dance as dialogue. Different styles of tap, Urban Funk and Traditional Tap, are in conflict where society has decided to accept one style over another. The characters and their styles ultimately find common ground, when the entire cast joins in on stage in a tap dance number reminiscent of the 30’s and 40’s Broadway musicals, with a contemporary edge that reflects current trends in tap styles today.
